Skirt

The body of the dalek below the shoulder is called the skirt. This skirt sits on the base, and the skirt has the half-balls (hemispheres) on it. A lot of work here, and a huge lot of that beyond my pitiful skills at carpentry. The skirt looks simple according to the plans, but I dont have the kit or the skills to do the panels. This section is definately going to be a laff and a haff!

Skirt frame first. Step in the illustrious Freek to cut out the panels to build out the skirt frame. First, sort out the bottom and top of the skirt - this is a larger than the skirt size on the plan by a little bit - want to be able to fit in the dalek for a start, and want darik to be a big supreme movie dalek!

The top and bottom boards need chamfering to get the correct angles before attaching the boards making up the skirt

The below shows all the pictures of all of the panels being made up.... First, panels 1 to 3

Ooooo its going to be heavy :)

Finally, Panel 11 goes into place. Next to clean it up, cut out the holes bottom and top, mark positions of the hemispheres

Cut out and sand down the tops and bottoms of the skirt frame to produce the holes. Place on the base. The result is astonishing!

Next stages will be to complete the base markup. Then, the skirt will get major filling, priming, priming, and more priming - nearly time to start of on the hemispheres!!!
